Customer Needs Diesel engines do not have a spark plug. But, they do have a glow plug, which is used to ignite the fuel during start up. Power is supplied to the glow plug and it heats up to 1900°F (1037°C). This temperature has to be achieved in so many seconds or the plug is defective.
To test the plug the manufacturer applies current and a timer. If the plug reaches the correct temperature in the proper time then the plug is accepted. The manufacturer has to warranty each plug for the engine manufacturer or the part wholesales company that resells to the general industry.
The best instrument to measure the plug temperature is the Modline 3 200 series or the 3R series. Both should have on off control for alarm condition. The accuracy is very critical so that the manufacture is not rejecting good parts or keeping bad parts.
