Customer Needs
Extrusion coating of copper telecommunications wire requires that the wire be preheated. Proper wire temperature insures reliable and consistent bonding of the plastic insulation to the wire. Proper temperature also insures proper thickness of the insulation.
The CHF can handle wire as small as 0.003” and wire speeds up to 8200 FPM (feet per minute). It is an emissivity-free measurement. Wire diameter changes do not affect the temperature measurement. This instrument provides the sensor necessary to promote closed loop control of the wire preheater.
Features/Benefits
Product
- CHF 7201, 7505, and 7506 are units specifically designed for this application.
- Often the speeds are too high or the wire is too narrow to be effectively measured with a spot pyrometer.
Application
- Better temperature control.
- Unaffected by changes in wire diameter.
- Better control of coating usage.
