Customer Needs In the process of manufacturing glass containers, bottles, an dinnerware the customer has to ontrol the glass temperature entering the mold. The glass moves from the furnace to the glass machine in a runner. At the end of the runner a plunger forces out a ball of glass, called the “gob”, which falls into a shoot and finally into the mold.
The temperature of this gob is critical. It controls the weight of the glass, the viscosity, and the formation of the container in the mold. The two color sensor is ideal for this application because it can actually measure the inside temperature of the gob. Furthermore emissivity is not affected by the size of the gob. Typical container plants may have 8 – 10 machines requiring instruments.
